Top Reasons To Hire A Newborn Photographer

Smartphone cameras are impressive with their high-quality lenses and features, built-in editing filters, and multiple ways to create professional-worthy finishes. Even so, nothing compares to a session with a professional newborn photographer.

5 Reasons To Invest In Professional Newborn Photography

Perhaps one of the most significant testimonies to the fact that nothing compares with professionally photographed newborn images is the fact that I don’t book regular photo sessions with anyone. Yes, clients who book maternity and newborn packages with me benefit from a bonus “milestone” session, but that’s it. I don’t do family photos, I don’t take holiday photos, and I don’t boost late winter and early spring graduation sessions.

Why?

Because my clients keep me filled to the brim with newborn photography sessions they know result in priceless images that can never be captured at home - even with the best at-home photography tips and tricks.

We have specialized safety training and newborn photography certification

Will you be able to capture stunning or breathtaking images of your newborn, toddler, and growing child over the years? Of course! There’s no doubt about it. However, professional newborn images are different.

Newborns can’t hold their heads up by themselves, can experience collapsed airways if tucked in the wrong positions for too long, and shouldn’t be left unattended in certain postures or locations. Qualified newborn photographers always prioritize safety first. In addition to maintaining infant CPR and first aid certifications, we hold distinctions like:

Distinctions like these set professional newborn photographers apart, proving that we pay as much attention to safety, hygiene, and tender professionalism as we do artistry and our craft.

You can’t see what I see (especially when it comes to the both of you)

Did you know that professional photographers hire other professional photographers when it comes to their own newborn photos? That’s because they know firsthand that they can’t see what other talented professionals see. Once you’re sitting in the subjective position, your focus changes. This is true for all new mothers and parents - but it’s especially true for mothers who’ve had a C-section, which requires a longer period to heal and alters how you hold and interact with your baby without support.

As a new mother or parent, you can’t see what I can see, nor can you create the best lighting, angles, positions, and ambiance for the level of photo results you desire. The artistic objectivity and creativity I bring to the table yield the gallery-worthy images that don the walls of my clients’ homes for the rest of their lives, and that become family heirlooms for generations to come.

Before you have your baby, you’ll have all kinds of fantasies about the things you’ll do in those several weeks and all of the time you’ll have. And yes, some of those will happen. However, as someone who spends most of her time with new mothers and families, I know that they enter an unprecedented time warp, and those first few weeks and months become a blur. Having a standing engagement with a professional newborn photographer is the only way to guarantee you’ll capture the incredible images you envision while your baby is still in that miraculous, precious newborn state.

You benefit from the newborn photo session experience

We talk a lot about the results of a newborn session: priceless images. However, we should speak more about the experience of the newborn session. Once they’re complete, my clients often contact me weeks and months afterward to tell me what an amazing experience it was.

My studio is expertly and comfortably equipped with everything you and your family need to feel completely at home during your photo shoot, including professional stylists, so new mothers can look and feel like the goddesses they are. This is not a rushed or stressful experience trying to capture the best image. Instead, we create a loving environment for you and those you love to revel in being together. It’s an opportunity to relax, bond, and enjoy being taken care of - knowing you’re creating sweet memories and stunning photos.

There’s no way to capture the images we do

I mentioned above that we have a safety-first approach to newborn photography, and that’s true. So, you might wonder how we capture the unique and stunning images of swaddled babies perched upright or appearing suspended in midair wrapped in a soft elfin cocoon.

Those special effects require the eye and artistry of the photographer, combined with safe newborn props and a crafty dose of professional photo editing software. Without the right number of props and know-how, you can’t possibly capture images like we do. And, scarily, any attempt to do so inevitably places your baby at risk.

In my post about choosing a safe newborn photographer, I demonstrate the number of times we have to capture the same image - providing human support to keep the baby safe and comfortable, all of which I edit after the fact. You’ll also see the difference between newborn infant skin (which may look pale, mottled, bumpy, or flakey) and how that becomes touched up in final shots.

We’re baby whisperers

You can’t get your baby to stop fussing or crying for more than 30 minutes to an hour at a time yet; how on earth will a stranger do it? Ah! Great question! Another noteworthy thing sets newborn photographers apart: we’re baby whisperers. Our profession is part interest, part calling, and with any vocation comes special gifts.

I have always loved and revered pregnant women and new mothers/babies. It’s a passion. In their presence, I feel a steadfast calm and unconditional love, and they feel it, too. Take it from a recent client who says, “My baby was 2 weeks old and a little fussy in the beginning, but Marcela calmed her down in a very gentle manner, “ or another who commented, “She is warm and caring and was so accommodating when the realities of having a baby (crying/biological need) came into play during a session. My husband and I both loved working with her.”

Knowing your baby is in tender, loving hands puts you at ease and makes for absolutely stunning photo and canvas images.
